=Brayden Zygadlo MASCRaduimRadium is a radio active element which has the symbol Ra and atomic number 88. Radium was discovered in 1898 by Mme. Curie in the pitchblende or uraninite of North Bohemia, where it occurs. There is about 1 g of radium in 7 tons of pitchblende. Its appearance is almost pure white, but it quickly oxidizes on exposure to air, turning black. Radium is an alkaline earth metal.Radium has a melting point of 700 degress celcius and a boiling poin of 1140 degress celcius.[1] 1g of radium gives of about 0.0001 ml of Radon gas per day which was captured and used in the treatment of cancer and other diseases, it was also used in self-liminous paints and as a neutron source,Radium is being replaced by other elements which are safer or stronger as it is considered to hazardous.Radium loses about 1% of its activity every 25 years being transformed into elements of lower atomic weight.Lead is the final product of this.[2]
